Spring Forward

Hydration

Spring has (finally) arrived—and your skin knows it.

In this episode of Office Hours, we’re doing something a little different. AUNU founder Jenn Krouse sits down with board-certified dermatologist and Chief of Dermatology, Dr. Adam Geyer, for a real-time Q&A on how to adjust your skincare routine for the seasonal shift while answering the questions that keep coming up in our group chat.

Jenn Krouse:
Hi, I’m Jenn Krouse, Founder and CEO of AUNU, and I’m here with Dr. Adam Geyer, board-certified dermatologist and AUNU’s Chief of Dermatology.

Today, we’re doing Office Hours, Episode 8: How to Adjust Your Skincare for Spring.

We’re here in New York, where it’s finally starting to feel like spring — which means warmer weather, more time outside, and a shift in what our skin actually needs.

So, Dr. Geyer, what’s really happening to our skin this time of year?

Dr. Adam Geyer:
During the colder months, we’re focused on protecting against dryness and barrier disruption. But as humidity and temperatures rise, we still need barrier support — just in a different way.

You may start to notice more congestion, increased oil production, or that your routine suddenly feels a bit heavy on your skin. That’s usually a sign that it’s time to simplify and rebalance — not necessarily throw everything out, but make smarter swaps.

Jenn Krouse:
So where should people start? What’s the first step in adjusting their routine for spring?

Dr. Adam Geyer:
The first thing I typically recommend is swapping your cleanser.

If you’ve been using a cream-based cleanser during the winter, it’s a good time to transition to a lighter gel or foam. This helps ensure proper cleansing without over-drying the skin.

As we move into spring, most of us naturally become a bit oilier. I often recommend AUNU’s non-stripping, refreshing Mānuka Cleanser — it effectively cleanses without disrupting the skin barrier and works well year-round.

Jenn Krouse:
Okay, so after cleansing — what does the right kind of hydration look like?

Dr. Adam Geyer:
This is where people tend to overcomplicate things.

In spring and summer, you don’t necessarily need more layers — you need the right kind of hydration. Look for ingredients with multifunctional moisturizing properties so you can use fewer, lighter, more breathable products.

AUNU has some great options. The Essence is lightweight, calming, and hydrating, while the Mānuka Cream is rich but never feels heavy or occlusive on the skin.

Jenn Krouse:
What is it about AUNU products that makes them work so well during this seasonal transition?

Dr. Adam Geyer:
At the core of every AUNU product is our proprietary Comvita MediHoney® — a medical-grade Mānuka honey that delivers multiple benefits at once.

It draws moisture into the skin, soothes inflammation, supports the skin barrier, and helps defend against visible signs of aging.

So you’re getting hydration, protection, and balance — without overloading the skin.

Jenn Krouse:
In your practice, what trends do you see as we move from winter into spring? Are more people coming in for treatments?

Dr. Adam Geyer:
The desire for tighter, brighter, smoother skin is pretty consistent year-round.

But every spring, we see an increase in demand for in-office treatments like lasers, chemical peels, and microneedling — people want to look their best heading into summer.

Then in the summer, patients tend to take a break from sun-sensitizing treatments and focus more on maintaining results through quality skincare.

Jenn Krouse:
So how should people think about their skincare if they’re doing those treatments now?

Dr. Adam Geyer:
This is where barrier support becomes critical.

Most in-office treatments work by creating controlled injury to the skin — or temporarily compromising the barrier — to drive long-term results. How you support your skin during the healing process makes a big difference.

In my practice, I often recommend AUNU’s Mānuka Salve as a post-treatment balm. It’s formulated with 8% MediHoney® and 3% colloidal oatmeal, and it helps calm inflammation, reduce visible redness, and support faster healing — which, in my experience, leads to better outcomes.

Jenn Krouse:
So what’s the big takeaway for a spring skincare reset?

Dr. Adam Geyer:
I wouldn’t think of it as a reset — I’d think of it as an adjustment.

The goal isn’t to start over with a completely new routine. It’s to refine what you’re already doing: focus on lightweight textures, simplify your routine, and prioritize multifunctional products.

That’s how you build stronger, more resilient skin for spring.
